The Center for Social Concern (CSC) focuses on student development through community engagement. We collaborate with Baltimore City organizations, Hopkins faculty, and other campus partners to curate community-based programming that helps equip our students to be engaged and responsible members of their community.

The Center for Social Concern's Pre-Orientation program, B’MORE Community Bound, is a program for first-year students seeking to build and foster intersectional communities with their fellow JHU peers, the institution, and Baltimore City.

The B’More Intersession Program is a one-week academic and co-curricular experience designed to introduce Johns Hopkins University students to Baltimore City’s civic and cultural landscapes while showing them the ways in which community engagement can enhance their JHU education.

Baltimore First is the Center for Social Concern’s primary community engagement program offered during the academic year.

The Johns Hopkins Tutorial Project is an after-school tutoring program that provides academic support for elementary school students (grades 1-5). Elementary school tutees receive one-on-one tutoring in reading and math.

Hop Talks is a series that enhances the community’s understanding of complex political and social issues, develops participants’ ability to engage in constructive dialogue and discussion, and encourages participants to collaboratively develop strategies to address issues that are important to them, and consider how these issues may affect the campus community.

The Civic Leadership Development Program supports a cohort of 12 full-time, undergraduate students to develop leadership skills to create a culture of Baltimore-based service and engagement for Hopkins undergraduates.
